Lisa Omeri earns OBEA Award of Merit

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE

Teacher Lisa Omeri receives prestigious business award

Lisa Omeri, a teacher with Iroquois Ridge High School,  is the recipient of the Ontario Business Educators Association (OBEA) Award of Merit, for promotion of and increasing awareness of Business Studies.
Omeri, who will officially receive the award at a conference on April 23, is overwhelmed by the news.

"I was nominated by my program leader, librarian Al Samsa, and having his recommendation, encouragement and support through the years, as well as the wonderful colleagues that I have been privileged to work with, has enriched my career tremendously," she said.

Omeri said she loves being part of the Business Studies program at Iroquois Ridge High School.

"I have been teaching Business Studies for 20 years and I am still excited to go to work every day to learn with my students and colleagues," she explained. "Business Studies will be a part of every students life regardless of pathway chosen. Also, the fact  business can appeal to a variety of students based on their interests, skills, career choices, etc. lends itself to teaching a wide range of students. In Business Studies, everyday can be different. Business can be incorporated in the classroom in so many dynamic and interesting ways."

The Ontario Business Educators' Association was established in 1895 with a mission to contribute to the professional growth of business educators and to respond to needs expressed by members. Workshops are offered to teachers across the province who wish to expose themselves to new ideas, new technology, new books, anything that will provide for more instructional material and individual insight specific to their student's needs.
